Before and After
Our linen closet needs a little help! Here’s the before picture!
I need a better way to store winter comforters than shoving them between other items, lol!!
I’m surprised the one on the top didn’t fall on my head when I opened the door!
And what about all of the clutter on the floor??
How does this happen??
Does your closet look this messy?
Oh well, it’s time to take control of this space!
Want to see what I did?
Wow! Don’t you think this looks so much better?
I have a little secret to tell you…
…I had a little help to make this organization project come together very quickly!
Thanks to a sponsored partnership with Lifewit, I organized this small linen closet in record time!
Before I tell you about the storage bags Lifewit provided for us, let’s talk strategy!
Here are the steps we will use to organize our closet!
Use the 6/P Strategy to organize a linen closet
Do each of the following steps:
1) PREP
Locate the following items:
A trash bag, a box, and two laundry hampers.
2) PURGE
Remove all items from the area you are organizing and place each in one of the following categories:
- Trash-Throw any unwanted items in the trash bag
- Donate- Place items that you won’t use in the donation box.
- Relocate-Place items that don’t belong in the closet in laundry hamper # 1
- Replace-Place items to keep in laundry hamper #2. Lay bulky items on the floor or a bed.
3) POLISH
Clean closet from top to bottom.
4) PERSONALIZE
It’s time to decide how you will organize the closet based on your personal needs.
- Group like items together.
- Decide how you will contain items. Will you make or purchase containers?
- Determine where you will place each group of items inside the closet.

5) PLACE
- Trash-discard in your garbage can.
- Donate-Don’t procrastinate. Take your items to your local donation center right away!
- Relocate- Take laundry hamper #1 and deliver items to the room where they belong.
- Replace- Place items inside the closet.
6) PUT BACK
Remember, if you don’t put each item back in its appropriate place after each use, you will have a cluttered mess again!!
My best advice for linen closet organization
I’m excited to share my best advice for organizing a linen closet! I hope you find it helpful!
prioritize items
Prioritize what you store in the linen closet.
My goal is to store linens in this closet.
The heater and wire organizers need to go!
I was storing a tub, with cleaning products for the upstairs bathroom in this closet but I will relocate that!
repurpose old linens
Do you hold on to old linens that you no longer use?
I know it’s hard to let go of stuff! But if you have linens that you’re not using, and they are in good shape, donate them!
If not, use old linens for paint tarps, moving blankets, or cut up for use as rags.
Look in the bottom left corner of the picture above, you’ll see the bedding my oldest son used in college.
I will repurpose them into paint tarps!
invest in containers
I like to store my sheet sets in separate containers!
If your budget allows, invest in containers!
I love the white plastic tubs with bamboo lids!
Baskets work nicely to store sheets as well!
CONTAIN WITH PILLOWCASES
No budget for containers, no problem, use a pillowcase instead!
Before owning containers, I would fold my sheets and place them inside the matching pillowcase!
Try it, the idea works amazingly well!
label containers
If you have containers that you can’t see inside, use labels!
I used my Cricut cutting machine to make the labels you see above!
FRESHEN UP
Keep your linens smelling fresh, by adding a dryer sheet to your container!
fold uniformly
If you store towels in your linen closet, fold and stack them uniformly.
The same applies to blankets.
dust-free environment
I have been searching online for a storage solution for out-of-season linens.
Since they get stored for months at a time, I wanted to keep them dust-free.
I always store out-of-season clothing in plastic tubs. But, the tubs are too large for this closet and won’t sit on the shelves.
When Lifewit approached me about partnering with them to try their large-capacity storage totes, I was thrilled.
This product is what I had been envisioning in my closet!
I love the large capacity of these bags!
One of the bags holds both of those bulky twin comforters previously stuffed in the closet.
Another bag contains four extra pillows and the last one contains three blankets and two throws.
They are lightweight and have two zippers making them easy to open and close.
Another great feature is the handles. They are very easy to carry and move around.
My favorite part is the clear window. I like being able to see what’s inside the bag!
We want to thank Lifewit for sponsoring this post and providing a great product to help us organize our small closet!
We highly recommend these storage bags!
