Will you be able to spend quality time with your dad?
If so, remember how fortunate you are!
Rich and I are sad since we won’t be able to spend time with either of our dads on Father’s Day this year!
So instead, we’ll be sending our Dads a gift!
Here are some tips to make Father’s day special whether you can be with your dad or not!
Tips for families that can share the day
Go to dad’s favorite restaurant
Where does your Dad like to eat out?
Take him to his favorite restaurant!
Last year on Father’s Day we took Rich to The Boat House at Disney Springs!
Then, we got dessert from Erin McKenna’s Bakery! That’s where Rich’s yummy “Dad” dessert in the top picture came from!
Take dad A favorite Treat
If your Dad (or Grand Dad) isn’t able to leave his home, take him a favorite treat or dessert! The donuts are from one of Rich’s favorite places, Donut King!
Go on an outing
Is there a special place your Dad has been wanting to visit?
Find out where he’d like to go and take him there!
A historical place, a state park, a museum, a farmers’ market.
Rich and our boys love theme parks! Here they are at Universal Islands of Adventure in 2014, in front of Hogwart’s castle!
Try dads favorite hobby
What does your Dad like to do in his spare time?
Go fishing, play a sport, go hiking?
Make plans to join him!
Rich loves to camp! Father’s Day is a great weekend to plan a camping trip! This picture was taken in St Augustine!
BUDGET-FRIENDLY GIFTS
With the prices of most goods and services rising lately, you may not have the budget to buy your dad a gift!
That’s no problem! With the simple tips below, you can plan an awesome Father’s day experience for your dad!
ENJOY THE OUTDOORS TOGETHER
Get outside and enjoy your dad’s company!
Go on a bike ride, enjoy a local park, bird watch, hike, or shoot some hoops!
Here’s my dad playing corn hole in the backyard the last time he visited us!
The last time Rich’s family visited we went for a walk at the lake!
have a family game night
What type of games does your dad like to play?
There are so many to choose from.
You could play card games, board games, outdoor games, or video games.
Rich has the Disney Game of Life set up and ready to go!
Give The gift of relaxation
No chores are allowed on Father’s Day!
Let your dad sleep in or take a nap in the middle of the day!
Maybe he would like to spend the day relaxing around the pool, at the beach, or on the couch!!
Do Chores on dad’s to-do list
Don’t just give your Dad a break from his chores, do them for him!
Offer to mow the grass, do the dishes, or do whatever you can do to lighten his load!
Make Dad a Card
A handmade card can mean so much more than a store-bought one! In this picture from 2007 Rich is holding two of the cards the boys made him!
A card can be simple as a folded piece of paper or you can use card stock to make it!
Not an artist, no problem, cut out pictures or a saying!
Praise and thank your dad
Tell your Dad how much you love him and appreciate him.
Give him the praise he deserves!
If it’s hard for you to say it out loud, write it down or make a video!
Buy your dad a gift
Dad’s can be very hard to shop for!
Not sure what to buy your Dad for Father’s Day?
We have some great gift ideas that might inspire you!
for the Dad that likes to cook
For the stylish dad
For the athletic dad
for dads that love tech
For DADS WHO LOVe SCI-FI AND SUPERHEROES
For dads that enjoy DIY
For the dad who enjoys yardwork

There are some wonderful ideas here. I especially like the one of doing the chores. I know my husband would appreciate that. In New Zealand Father’s Day is in September so I’ve got plenty of time to plan.

Thank you for the tips. My husband is now in a nursing home so it is hard to do the Father’s Day like we use to. How ever your tips gave me ideas for my sons who help out me at home now. They are worthy of a Father’s Day treat too. Thanks so much for the tips.
