Do you enjoy spending time at the pool in summer? If you said yes, you will appreciate my practical tips to help you organize a pool bag!
Summer is in full swing here in Florida, and we live with 90-degree temperatures for the entire season! I’m so thankful we live in a community with a fabulous swimming pool to help us keep cool! To make our lives easier, I keep a pool bag packed and ready to go!

Why should you keep an organized pool bag?
If you go to the pool regularly, you should keep your bag packed during summer! Here are my top three reasons why!
Saves time
Don’t waste time gathering items all over your house every time you go to the pool.
Instead, store the items you need inside your pool bag.
no forgotten items
Before I started keeping my bag packed, I would inevitably forget something.
It stinks to be at the pool, and then realize you forgot your sunglasses or hat!
If it’s packed, you have no worries about leaving something behind!
Able to leave at a moment’s notice
If a friend calls and asks if you want to join them at the pool, you can say I’ll be there!
All you have to do is throw your swimsuit on and go!
Grab a bag
Say hello to my favorite bag!
It’s by Thirty-One.
It is old, dirty, and a bit wore out!
However, I’m not ready to give it up!
I love all the pockets it has for storage!
When it wears out, I’ll probably get a larger bag.
For now, I want to show you what will fit in this one!
What should you pack in a Pool bag?
Here are my best tips to organize practical pool items in your bag!
pool key/Admission
The last thing I want to forget is the pool key!
Do you know how frustrating it is to be at the gate and not be able to get inside?
Plus, the key for the restrooms is also on the keychain!
If you have to pay to get into the pool, don’t forget to pack money for admission and the snack bar!
protection from the sun
Sunscreen
You can not forget the sunscreen! The last thing you want or need is a sunburn!!
Sunglasses
It’s so important to protect your eyes from the sun.
Plus, I have enough wrinkles already, the last thing I need to do is squint!!
Hats
I like to wear a hat for extra protection for my face!
I’m rocking the “coastal Grandma vibe” with my big floppy hat that rolls up for easy storage!
entertainment
What do you like to do at the pool besides swimming?
I enjoy reading, working on Sudoku puzzles, or watching YouTube videos!
Books/magazines
I always pack a book for me to read and the Kindle for Rich.
I love holding a real book in my hands at the pool!
This summer I am reading the Harry Potter series for, I don’t know, the hundredth time!
I also enjoy doing sudoku puzzles, so I keep that book and a pencil in the bag!
Tip- Here’s a great tip if you like to read a real book! Take clips to hold the pages down from the wind and to keep your place!
Phone/earphones
Tip- Store earphones in an empty chewing gum container to keep them from getting tangled or lost in the bottom of the bag!
Sometimes, I like to scroll through Instagram or watch YouTube videos on my phone.
I don’t want to disturb others with the sound, so I keep earphones in my bag.
Toys
The boys don’t like to sit around in chairs when they go to the pool with us!
They still like to have something to entertain them in the water.
So I keep a few pool toys and goggles in a zip-lock storage bag.
The plastic bag prevents other items in my pool bag from getting wet.
refreshments
You know you’ll get thirsty and maybe even a bit hungry while at the pool, so go prepared!
Water
You need to stay hydrated, so drink lots of water!
We have reusable water bottles that we trade out for plastic most of the time.
Snacks
I used to grab the whole container of nuts or granola, but they took up too much room in my bag!
I finally wised up and bought this cute container to keep in my pool bag!
It’s the perfect size to take a couple of snacks in!
Wet ones
These wipes are great to clean your hands or a table when snacking!
I buy the travel size to keep in my pool bag!
Extras
I keep the following items in a plastic zip-lock bag just in case I might need them!
- hairbrush
- hair scrunchie
- waterproof band-aids stored in a travel Q-tip container
TOwels
Last but not least are the beach towels!
My towel was always sliding down the chair or blowing off of it when we go to the beach.
When I saw these cute towel clips, I knew I had to have them!
These clips are a game changer! They work so well!
All right, my friend, those are all the practical tips I have to help you organize a pool bag!
If I left anything out let me know in the comments below!
Now, I can’t wait to get up from this computer and head to the pool!
I hope you have lots of happy days at your pool this summer!
Blessings, Donna and Rich

These are all great tips for staying organized at the pool! I love the idea of keeping a bag like this stocked so you can grab and go whenever you want. I can’t believe how crazy hot and humid it is in Florida. It blows my mind how the gauge can say 95 but feel like 108 because of the humidity. Thankfully, there are plenty of pools and the beach to enjoy as we navigate the rest of summer! Pinning! Big hugs, CoCo

Donna you always amaze me with how organized and prepared you are for any event or season! No wonder your blog is entitled “An Organized Season” – Indeed! Thanks for all the tips and great ideas (like the clips to hold the pages of your book in place). Have you thought about writing a book on organization? In awe of your organization skills, as always.
Donna Allen says
Oh my goodness, you are too kind! I love to organize everything and would love to write a book about organizing and decorating through each season! That’s a big dream though! Thanks for your vote of confidence! Happy day, Donna
