Before we get started, I’d like to say thank you to Maria at PureHappy Home for organizing our tour! Be sure to hop over and see her beautiful blog and tell her I sent you!
Now, I can’t wait to show you my lanai!
Well, that’s what they call a back porch in Florida!
I’m originally from Kentucky, so I still call it my back porch!
I just can’t get used to saying the word lanai!
What I have gotten used to, is being able to spend time on my porch all year long!
No matter how many days you get to spend on your porch, I think it’s important to create an outdoor oasis, where you can enjoy yourself with family and friends!
So, I came up with 15 items you need to create a relaxing porch, lanai, deck, or patio!
Let’s take a look!
15 items you need to create a relaxing porch
One) Add a Screen to your porch
If you truly want to relax on your porch, I suggest you put up a barrier between you and the bugs!
Now we have no worries about getting bitten by mosquitos or flies landing on our food!
Two) Bring in COMFY FURNITURE
Comfortable furniture is a must if you want to spend extended amounts of time outside!
Having an ottoman you can put your feet up on is a bonus!
Three) add LOTS OF THROW PILLOWS
To make your outdoor areas feel more like a relaxing indoor space, add throw pillows!
You’ll need them when you get ready to take that much-needed nap!!
Four) Hang a PORCH SWING
I can’t think of anything more relaxing than swinging back and forth on a porch swing.
My dogs even like to sit with me and swing!
Five) Soften the floor with RUGS
Rugs are another fabulous addition to make your porch feel like a comfortable indoor space!
They are also a fun way to add color and interest to the space!
Six) Provide a POUF
Poufs are a great addition to any porch!
They provide extra seating or a place to put your feet up!
Seven) Bring out A THROW BLANKET
If it gets chilly where you live in the morning or evenings, be sure to have a light throw blanket within arm’s reach!
I needed this for Spring but will probably move it inside during summer! Can you say humidity!!
Eight) include a SIDE TABLE
If you’re relaxing on the porch, you’re going to need a place to put your book or drink down. A side table will do the trick!
Nine) set up A DINING AREA
I love to eat outside! For some reason, a meal seems more special when being eaten outdoors!
Guess what friends…I did a complete makeover on this table and chair set! No more brown! Now it’s black and white! I stenciled an amazing clockface on the tabletop that you have to see! Click here to see the transformation!
Ten) use DISHES THAT WON’T BREAK
To make your meal feel more relaxed, invest in a set of melamine dishes that won’t break! They are perfect for outdoor use and taking on picnics!
Eleven) incorporate CANDLES
Candles can create a relaxing glow at night on your porch! Besides creating ambiance, citronella candles will help keep the bugs away!
Twelve) Spring for A WATER FEATURE
If you find the sound of trickling water as relaxing as I do, you definitely should consider adding a fountain to your porch!
Thirteen) Plant FLOWER containers
Bring a bit of nature to your porch by adding some pretty flowers in containers!
fourteen) add outdoor art to the walls
To make your porch feel homier and relaxing add art to the walls! Make sure it’s intended for outdoor use!
fifteen) play a game
If you’re the type of person who just can’t sit still to relax, bring out a game or deck of cards that you can play on the porch! Tic Tac Toe is always fun!
I hope this tour of my back porch has given you lots of inspiration to create a relaxing porch at your house! Let me know in the comments below how much time you spend on your porch!

I love all of these ideas. Your porch looks so relaxing & comfy. I live on the Gulf Coast and there’s such a limited amount of time that we can truly enjoy the outdoors due to the heat, humidity, and gnats (unless it’s in the evening)! We just bought a new home and were gifted some beautiful chairs, so I’m going to have to use some of your tips to create an oasis of my own! Our patio and porch is small, but I’m going to give it a shot. I absolutely love your shelves with the decor on them. Just lovely. If y’all would ever like to add a blogger to your hop, I’d love to join! Thanks for sharing on Crafty Creators!
XOXO,
Niki
