Mother’s Day Ideas anyone can do
You don’t need a big budget to make Mother’s day extra special! Any of the ideas below will make your Mom feel loved!
Don’t have the budget to buy your mom an expensive gift?
That’s ok because I have something she will like even better!
These ideas are free if you use items you already have at home!
Give Mom the day off
If you want to show your Mom you love her, give her the day off. Absolutely no cooking, cleaning, laundry, or doing dishes!! She should be queen for the day! Allow her to put her feet up and rest on this special day!! The rest of the people in the household can take over her responsibilities!
Let Mom sleep in
This is so simple, but would be much appreciated! Give Mom a break and let her get some extra sleep!
PICK SOME FLOWERS
Go outside and pick some flowers from your yard! I always loved to receive a lone dandelion picked by one of the boys! If you don’t have any flowers in your yard, ask a neighbor, friend, or relative if you can pick a bouquet from their yard!
Serve Mom breakfast in bed
While Mom is sleeping-in, the rest of the family can prepare breakfast! To make the day extra special serve her breakfast in bed!
COMPLIMENT YOUR MOM
Tell your Mom how much you love and appreciate her! Share a favorite memory you have made together! Compliment her and you will make her day extra special!
Make a handmade card
As you can see, in the picture above (2009), I love to get handmade cards from my boys! They are so creative and one of a kind! I’ve received simple drawings, colorful stories, and amazing designs made on the computer. They are so fun to look at and have great sentimental value to me!
PREPARE A PICNIC
Surprise your mom with a picnic lunch! Find a blanket, make sandwiches, grab some fruit, and a bag of chips! Set up the picnic in your yard or go to her favorite park! If the weather doesn’t cooperate, no big deal, set out a blanket inside, and throw some pillows on the floor!
GO FOR A WALK IN A SPECIAL PLACE
Spend some quality time with your mom and go for a walk! We have a beautiful Nature Preserve near our house where we enjoy walking, talking, and spending time together!
TAKE A FAMILY PHOTO
Take a picture of mom and her kids on Mother’s Day! Whatever you do, capture the memory! It’s so fun to look back at old pictures and see how much has changed through the years! I miss my Mom so much and I’m so happy to have pictures like this one that was taken on Mother’s Day 2010.
plan a family movie night
Plan to have a family movie night but let mom pick her favorite movie! Everyone has to watch and not complain about her choice! Make popcorn or her favorite snack!
plan an experience with your mom
Moms love to spend time with the people they love! So rather than giving her a gift, you can give her an experience that will make this year’s Mother’s Day extra special!
TAKE A CLASS TOGETHER
Is there something your mom would like to learn to do? If so, you could take a class together! You can find classes for cooking, painting, cake decorating, jewelry making, and lots more!
GO TO THE MOVIES
Is there a movie your mom has been wanting to see? Take her to see it on the big screen!
eat at her favorite restaurant
The last thing your mom wants to do on Mother’s Day is to cook a big meal! Take her out to her favorite restaurant instead!
Attend an event together
What type of events does your mom enjoy? Why not buy tickets for an upcoming event you can attend together. Ideas would be a concert, a play, a ballet, a festival, or a sporting event!
shop at her favorite place
Does your Mom love to shop? Plan an outing to her favorite place. Consider a trip to an outlet mall, a flea market, or go antiquing! Here is Rich pulling our wagon around Renningers Antique and Collectors Extravaganza, while I search for treasures!
treat her to a spa day
Does your Mom love to be pampered? Does she always put others before herself? Either way, treat her to a spa day. A manicure & pedicure, a facial, a massage, or a combination of those things would be great!
If a trip to the spa is not in your budget, consider purchasing items she can use herself, at home. A bath pillow, bath bombs, bath salts, and a few candles, so she can soak in her tub in luxury!!
Plan a getaway
Is there someplace your mom has always wanted to go? Does your family have a special place that’s sentimental to them? Plan a day or weekend trip to go there! This is the beach at Fort DeSoto. We can go there for a day trip or take our camper and stay longer!
